The work I create is an avenue I reflect my feminist sensibility by reflecting issues of the beauty myth, body image and women in a religious context.  The vein of my pieces is consistently feminist through the mediums I use, printmaking and metals.  The subject matter in the prints is usually a female form but I also use an aesthetic language of objects I created to expose my personal ideology.  The metal pieces are of prints and drawings encompassed by metal and deal with female oriented issues.

My work embodies the struggle within humanity but specifically women in the institution of society, relationships and religion.  I show this by using Catholic imagery in my work because Mary is a key figure in Christian tradition and yet women struggle to finds a voice in the church body or be taken seriously by religious leader, usually male.  I create work the expresses the embodiment of the beauty myth and the tension in creates between and among women individually and corporally by playing with ideas weight standards, femininity and gender issues.  I show this through my created object language and using images with historical associations with the domestic and images of tension. The work I create is the vehicle where I formulate my ideology and express it to an audience.

Andy Warhol has been a major influence with his use of famous women as icons, hence Marilyn Monroe, and his utilization of multiples. I look at Frida Khalo’s work and her grasp of symbolism has been an influence for me as well.  Lastly, Eva Hesse and her command of line and repetition have shaped the way I create my pieces.
