Jesse Cooley
My recent works are based on scenes of everyday life. A combination of different
architectural styles and fantasy landscape provides the setting for everyday
subject matter, both abstractly and naturalistically. My influences are minimalist
architects and artists and northern Renaissance artists, specifically Hieronymus
Bosch. Figures, text, and still lives represent characters interacting in a
global environment that is constantly changing. Free writing is used as a formal
element and also denotes humanity’s misapprehension of universal themes
and questions in relation to their environments.
Drawing is my main source of work. I use mixed media and collage to capture a combination of changing aesthetics and materials; however, charcoal and graphite are my primary media.
