The sculptures and installations that I create are made from varying combinations of wood, metal, cloth, paper, plaster, and found objects. I install compositions of large geometric figures or organic forms, in sequence or asymmetrical juxtaposition, in spaces of transit i.e. doorways, hallways, passageways, or stairways, forcing the viewer to get “dangerously” close to each piece. This forced interaction, while not actually dangerous, causes each viewer to become acutely aware of his or her self as an element within the space around them and challenges traditional ideas about interaction with an art object. The sizes of the figures and forms range from rectangular boxes of 1’x2’x3’ to cone shapes with a diameter of 20’ and a height of 12’. The compositions are all temporary in nature. Parts of each are created on sight and they are often taken down within hours of construction. My work can be compared to a fusion of the interactive installations of Gary Hill and the happenings of Allan Kaprow.
