Nathaniel Underwood
Every sense I could hold a pencil in my hand I would draw, and today I'm still drawing. I'm currently working on a degree in art and being certified as a teacher here at Murray State and hopefully with time I will be able to do what I love most, draw. I hope to one day draw cartoons or comics, that is my goal. I'm really interested in drawing children's books. That would be very self fulfilling. Not only am I doing what I love but as a teacher I would be helping child.
Cartoons aren't the only thing I draw, I also like to do large abstract pieces. Perhaps my favorite is blind contour pieces. I use charcoal or pen, a majority of my work is black and white. When I am creating something like this, I am creating an extension of myself. Emotionally, psychological and mentally. As an artist, I am extremely motivated by my emotions. So when I am working, I use those emotions and I express exactly what I feel or think. By this, it gives me the chance to create a real piece. It means something. I didnıt just create it to make a buck. Itıs also my therapy, it is my vent. I am truthfully able to express my self with my own ideas.
I could never be discovered and maybe no one would ever want to buy my work. That is fine. Iım OK with that because that isnıt why I am an artist. Iım an artist because I love it, because it fills the hole that I have. I am able to be and express myself, and I can share a little of myself with others.
