Planning Process
Working with your small group, assume the roles of professional health
educators and implement planning for health education programs. Choose
one of the settings below. Write the steps of the model as major headings.
Provide a detailed description under each heading explaining the actions
that would need to be taken.

1. Using Dignan and Carr’s Health Education/Promotion Planning Model as
a framework, describe the events you would plan to complete for the following
situation.
You have been hired as the Tobacco Education Coordinator for Calloway
County. You know that some teachers in the schools have been collaborating
with the Purchase District Health Department and local hospitals to provide
tobacco abstinence education in 9th grade. Your task is to develop
tobacco education and support programs for all citizens in Calloway County.
You may use formal educational programming and informal (health promotion)
activities to accomplish your task.

2. Use Kane’s 8 steps to Comprehensive School Health as a framework to
describe the events you would plan to complete the following situation.
You are the Graves County High School health teacher. A Comprehensive
School Health program does not exist. Provide a framework to describe the
events you would plan to establish a comprehensive school health program.
You may coordinate efforts with the PDHD and area "experts".
Write each person’s name at the top of your plan.
Criteria for grading: equal participation by all group
members; complete and accurate depiction of planning models, specific ideas
for implementation, creative approaches to education, widespread and appropriate
involvement of health and medical professional, agencies and community
organizations; neat and legible writing.
