Spotted Salamander

6"-9"long, perhaps one of the most striking of all salamanders.  Stoutly built, blue-black to dark gray above, with two irregular rows of yellow or orange spots beginning on the head and extending to the tip of the tail.  Belly is slate gray.  Found in hardwood forests and hillsides around pools and ponds, these are another spring-breeding species that migrates during the rainfall.  Has metamorphic development.
