Red Salamander

 

 
4"-7" long, a robust red salamander with short legs and tail, and numerous irregularly shaped black spots.  Back and belly colors blend gradually along sides.  Yellow eyes.  Another streamside salamander, typically found in or near springs, seepages, and cool clear brooks, plus the surrounding woodlands or swampy areas.  Females lay eggs near stream, which hatch into aquatic larvae.  Feeds on a variety of invertebrates, but especially earthworms.
