| Opposite, simple, palmately veined (all maples), five lobes with deep sinuses, margins of terminal lobes diverge (unlike other maples). Undersurface light to silvery green, dark upper; biggest contrast among maples. Bark breaks into plates that are loose at upper and lower ends of plate. The plates curl out. Can see orange inner bark. Key has widely divergent wings. Aceraceae. |
