| Opposite, simple, petioles make a V-shape, palmately 3 lobed (sometimes 5). Margins of terminal lobe curve toward point (parallel in Sugar). Bark breaks into narrow ridges and fissures, sometimes twists around trunk a small amount. Key has slightly divergent wings. Aceraceae. The leaves in the above picture show various stages of fall coloring. The upper-right leaf makes the origin of the tree's name clear. |
