Medium sized, 60"-80" in height, 1'-3' diameter, with pyrimid crown and drooping lower branches.  Leaves are 3"-6" long, deeply 5-7 lobed with wide, round sinuses, and lobes toothed and bristle-tipped.  Bright green and shiny above, paler below, with slim petioles.  Fruit is 1/2" acorn, light brown, enclosed at base in think cup.  Bark is thick, gray-brown, long and smooth.  Found in moist sites, and a common ornamental tree.
