Alternate, bipinnately and pinnately compund (both on same tree).  Delicate light yellowish-green leaflets.  Legumes are 12-14" long, twisted.  Bark is smooth, gray, wide lenticels, breaks into wide plates, wide fissures.  Wild ones have branched thorns up to 2ft long. . .can puncture a tractor tire.  Again, differences from black locust are that the honey has longer thorns and pods, shorter leaves, and smaller leaflets (and are sometimes bipinnate).
