Boxelder Maple

A small tree, up to 75' in height and 4' in diameter, trunk usually irreegular and dividing into sevaral stout, widespreading branches.  Leaves are compound, 3-5 leaflets with a long petiole, leaflets oval to lance-like, 3-4" long, pointed at tips, coarsely serrate and sometimes 3-lobed at base.  Fruit is drooping key with convergent wings, 1-2" long.  Bark is thin, pale gray or light brown, deeply divided by furrows into broad, round ridges.  Dows well on a variety of soils and in harsh climates.
