Bald Cypress

A large tree 100-120' high, 3-5' diameter, pyramidal crown when young, irregular and flattened crown when older.  Trunk is tapered with a fluted base, and conical knees appear around the base in wetter areas.  Linear leaves are spirally arranged and deciduous, 1/2'-3/4' lon, two-ranked.  Fruit is woody, globular, green to brown, floats in water, containing seeds inside of scales.  Bark is variable, thin and scaly to fibrous, red-brown to ash gray.  Typically in wet areas, this species can liv up to 2,000 years!
