Little Brown Bat

(c) Merlin D. Tuttle, Bat Conservation International.

Small, brownish bats; can distinguish from gray bat by color and wing membrane attached on foot, reaching the base of toes rather than ankles.  This species is almost ubiquitous across the U.S. and Canada, except for the most Northern and Southern areas.  They live in crevices, along cliffs, and in trees.  They often hibernate in limestone caves and mines.  Feed on flying insects.
