Deer Mouse

 

 
Small mouse (4.5"-8" long) with large, protruding black eyes, large scantily furred ears, and a long, well-furred tail.  Color is grayish to reddish brown on top, with whitish lower face and underparts.  Deer mice are found throughout most of North America, often in open habitats like fields, meadows, etc.  They are mostly nocturnal, nest underground, and feed on insects, nuts, seeds, and berries.
