Welcome! to the KYOTE PreCalculus and Calculus Placement page
You may use paper, a writing utensil, and a calculator which is not capable of doing algebraic manipulations. You may not use any other resource, human or printed or technological. It is very important that you take the exam according to the way that it was written and normalized. This exam does not give you credit for any course, it is only to place you into a course in which you can thrive.
The following Mathematics placement exam is available upon request emailed to the chair of Mathematics and Statistics, and after having taken the KYOTE Algebra exam..
Using Firefox (because it displays the expressions better) go to the following link and register for a placement account using the student registration link in the upper left of the page (it is free). When entering your student number leave off the M, since it wants only numbers.
KYOTE PreCalculus and Calculus
Once registered, use the pull-down menu to select
MSUCalculus_May_25 (or whatever the day is)
and enter the password
engagemath2
in the password field. Then hit submit. You may have to Allow Pop-up pages for the exam page to come up, so if the exam page does not appear, look near the url entry line for a message that a pop-up window was blocked (such as in the image below); click on the message and use the provided links to allow pop-up windows on KYOTE.org
The exam page will show 27 buttons. Click on a button and you will be able to see the question. Answer the question and the button will turn yellow. When you have completed all the questions click on Go to the Submit Button page and then click on Submit.
A new window will show the results of the exam. This score will be recorded into the registration system and be available for placement at your Summer Orientation.
You may take these Mathematics exams *from home* only one time each. If you wish an additional opportunity for a placement score, it is recommended that you take an Accuplacer or KYOTE in a fully proctored setting.
