MESSAGE: 5/12

The course is over, the final grades are in!

The final exam did not turn out that great - you can see the solutions and statistics on the 'Scores and Solutions' page.  In spite of this, most people got the final grade they expected, if not better.

I enjoyed teaching the course!  Special thanks to the people who regularly participated in class discussion!

Everyone have a great summer!

MESSAGE: 5/1

Exam 5 turned out well.  See the 'Scores and solutions' page for the statistics and the solutions.

Take-home exam 6 has been distributed and is due tomorrow in class with 4PM tomorrow the ABSOLUTE deadline.  If you haven't picked up your exam, make sure you do it very soon.  I will make every effort to get exam 6 back to you by Friday afternoon.

On the take-home exam you may consult your book and notes, but you are not allowed to work with anyone else.  If I discover that the work on this exam is not your own, I will take points off.

Our final exam is on Tuesday, 8:00AM in the same room.  Bring a calculator.

MESSAGE: 4/24

Exam 5 is scheduled for Monday, 4/28.  It will cover sections 10.1-10.4. Let's try to improve scores this time to offset the bad grades from exams 3 and 4.

I will have exam 5 graded for Wednesday.  On Wednesday you will also get the take-home exam 6 which will contain a review of the material from the entire course.  You will turn it in on Friday, 5/2, and I will try to get it back to you by the afternoon so that you can study for the final exam (see the link at left for the time of the final exam.)

On the take-home exam you may consult your book and notes, but you are not allowed to work with anyone else.  If I discover that the work on this exam is not your own, I will take points off.

MESSAGE: 4/14

Exam 4 didn't turn out very well.  It should have been better, though, since the exam covered only 3 sections and we spent a fair amount of time working the problems in class.  I decided not to give an opportunity for extra points this time.  Solutions are now posted.

Homework for chapter 4 is now posted, as is the final exam time.  Check left for appropriate links.

MESSAGE: 4/8

Exam 4 is tomorrow, 4/9.  It will cover sections 9.5, 9.7 and 9.8.

Solutions to exam 3 are now posted.

MESSAGE: 3/26

Exam 4 is scheduled for next Wednesday, 4/9.  It will cover 9.5, 9.7 and 9.8  You have only a few sections and techniques to study so now is a good opportunity to beef up that grade.

MESSAGE: 3/26

Exam 3 turned out quite poorly (see the scoreboard page).

The test was a little long and the material difficult, so I am giving you an opportunity to improve your score by a maximum of 10 points as follows: solve problems from the exam totaling 10 points or more, write them on a separate sheet of paper and return them to me, along with your exam, by Monday, 3/31.  I will grade the problems and add your score minus any points that you already had on those problems to your exam score.  Therefore, it is in your interest to solve the problems that you did the most poorly on.

For example, you solve two problems worth 6 and 7 points on which you had 2 and 0 points on the exam.  Assuming you get everything corrrect this is 6+7-(2+0)=11 extra points.  However, you can get at most 10 extra points, so 10 will be credited to you.

The bonus problem is eligible for getting the extra points.  You may consult with the book or get help from me or other people on the problems that you are turning in.

Exam 3 solutions will appear once you have turned in your extra problems.

Exam 3 is on Friday, 3/14,  covering sections 9.1-9.4.  No calculators will be allowed.  Yes, I would like you to memorize those formulas and fear many will have little reminder-sheets inside the calculator or its memory.  All problems will be such that you will not need the calculator to work them.

MESSAGE: 3/6

Exam 2 turned out well.  You can see the scores and the solutions on the 'Scores and Solutions' page.

We will have exam 3 on Friday, 3/14.  It will tentatively cover sections 9.1-9.5.  Homework for those sections is posted.

MESSAGE: 2/28

Exam 2 will be graded by Monday.

Homework for chapter 9 is posted.  Chapter 8 has been moved to 'Old homework'.

MESSAGE: 2/24

Exam 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, 2/26.  It will cover sections 8.5-8.8.  Expect problems like we did and class and had for homework.  Calculators are allowed and you may use them to check your work when graphing a certain function, but be prepared to indicate characteristic points on a graph exactly (x-intercepts, coordinates of peaks and valleys, etc.) when asked.  Essential knowledge from previous sections, such as drawing angles and basic trigonometric identities is assumed.

MESSAGE: 2/12

Exam 1 turned out well.  You can view the scores and the solutions of the exam on the 'scores and solutions' page.  If you received a poor grade on this exam, now is the time to start studying (the next exam is coming up soon), as the first exam was the easiest we will have.  See me during office hours if you need help.

We will go over 8.6 in class on Friday and look over homework for 8.5 and 8.6 on Monday.

MESSAGE: 2/5

We are having an exam on Friday, 2/7!  The exam will cover sections 8.1-8.4 and will have problems like those given for homework and done in class.  Calculators will be allowed for the exam.  If you have questions,  see me during office hours (click 'contact info') or make an appointment with me.
