MESSAGE: 12/19 (LAST ONE!)

The course is over, the final grades are in!  That final exam turned out pretty hard for most people.  It was partly due to our quick covering of chapter 16, but many points were lost on old stuff, too.

The grade computer is updated to take into account all the homeworks.  If you use it to find out your score, email me to get your final exam grade.  Check out the exam statistics
and view the final grades information on the usual page.

I thoroughly enjoyed teaching this course - hopefully you enjoyed it from your end as well.  Thanks to everyone who participated in class, be it with insight, humor, or perpetually asking for bonus points, thus making it a standard joke.  Everybody have a great winter break!

MESSAGE: 12/4

The deadline for turning in homework (16.5-16.7) has been extended to Monday of next week.  Homework in 16.8 and 16.9 will not be turned in.  The default homework information on the grade computer has been modified to take into account points on all but the last homework.  If you want to play with numbers that include the last homework, enter 408 and 11 in the pre-filled fields.

The final exam will be comprehensive and will take place on Thursday, 12/11, at 1:30 in our usual classroom.  You may bring a 5''x3'' notecard with whatever information you would like to put on it.  About 1/3 of the exam will be over chapter 16 and the exam will be 6 pages (80 points vs. exams with 50 points so far).  Since we rushed through chapter 16 I will keep the problems over that section basic.

Office hours for next week are:

Day Time
Mon 11:30 - 3:30
Tue
9:30 - 10:30, 1:00-3:30
Wed
11:30 - 3:30
Thu
11:30 - 1:30

We can arrange another time if you can't make one of these times.
MESSAGE: 11/21

The due date for homework has been moved to Tuesday of next week.  However, we are adding 16.4 to the list of sections that are getting turned in.

The grade computer is now operational!   Try it!

MESSAGE: 11/14

Exam 3 did not turn out that great (see 'Scores and Solutions').  Most likely it was too long.  Therefore, I am giving you the opportunity to earn up to 5 points (10%) toward your exam grade.  Turn in any problem where you missed 5 points or more along with your exam by Monday.  Any points beyond what you got on the exam will be credited toward your grade, up to 5 points.

New homework is assigned for chapter 16, note that 3 sections are due next week.

MESSAGE: 11/6

Exam 3 is on Tuesday, 11/11.  It will cover chapter 15 (the sections we covered).

MESSAGE: 10/31

Let's consider exam 3 for Tuesday, 11/11.  We should be able to finish the remaining two sections this week and make some headway into new material before the exam.

MESSAGE: 10/27

The assignment that is due this Thursday is 15.4 and 15.7.  (Sorry for the late notice.)

Exam 2 solutions and statistics are posted in the usual place.

MESSAGE: 10/16

New homework is posted.  ( I knew you couldn't wait.)  You know where the old homework is stashed.

MESSAGE: 10/9

Exam 2 is scheduled for Tuesday, 10/14.  We'll review on Monday, so come with questions.

Homework that was due today will be accepted with no penalty until Monday.  Bring it to me by 11AM Monday in order to have it returned to you in class.  If you want to leave homework for me tomorrow, when the math department offices are closed, clearly label that it is for me and slip it either under the math office door or under the annex door.

MESSAGE: 10/3

Exam 2 is scheduled for Tuesday, 10/14.  It will cover chapter 14.  The remainder of chapter 14 homework will be due next Thursday, so you will receive it graded before the exam.  See me for help during office hours soon if you are having trouble.

MESSAGE: 9/26

Exam 1 didn't turn out that great.  You can find the solutions on the 'Scores and solutions' page. You have an opportunity to get up to 5 points toward your test grade by working out the bonus problem and turning it in on Monday, 9/29.  This applies to everyone, including people who would go over 50 if they got 5 points on this problem.

Homework is posted for Chapter 14.  Homework for chapters 12 and 13 has been moved to the 'Old homework' page.

MESSAGE: 9/12

Exam 1, covering chapters 12 and 13 is on Thursday (9/18) of next week.  Although chapter 13 is included on the exam, the homework for that chapter is not due until the week afterward, since there doesn't seem to be enough time to collect and grade it before the exam.

Are you bored this weekend or want a break from studying?  Try playing Ultimate Frisbee with my group!  Saturdays at 2PM, more details here.

MESSAGE: 9/5

Sorry for the lateness in updating.  New homework is assigned for next week.

We'll aim to have exam 1 the week after next, it will cover chapters 12 and 13.

MESSAGE: 8/27 (SCROLL DOWN FOR PREVIOUS MESSAGES)
