| MESSAGE: 12/12 (LAST ONE!) |

The course is over, the final grades are in!
The final exam
turned out LOUSILY. What happened, people? While integration
was new, I chose the simplest problems for the exam. Also, many people
had trouble with derivatives, which should not be a problem at all. Anyway,
I added 10 points to the final exam, so the final grades turned out reasonably
good. See scoreboard for all the information.
The grade computer has been updated. If you want to use it, you will
need your final exam grade, which you can get from me. Solutions to the final exam are posted.
I enjoyed teaching the course and look forward to seeing you in the follow-on
course to this one, MAT 308. Happy holidays to everyone!
Final exam is on Tuesday, 10:30AM, in our usual classroom. The
final exam is comprehensive and will be 50% longer than our usual exams (its
value is 50% more) - thus, 6 pages instead of 4, about 90 points instead
of 60. You should have plenty of time: 2 hours. The final exam
will be 1/3 from chapter 5, 2/3 from the rest of the material through the
semester. Make sure you know how to do all the problems on previous
exams and quizzes, since many of the problems on the final will be very much
like them. You can also find some suggested review problems from each section on the 'Homework' page.
We didn't get to cover part of section 5.4 that deals with the total change
theorem, so you may ignore the part of the assignment in 5.4 about it (problems
47,49,50,52,58).
Special office hours: Mon, 9:30-11:30AM.
Review session in our usual classroom: Mon, 4:00-5:00PM. Come with
questions. If the classroom is occupied, I will leave a note where
we are.
Make an appointment with me if you cannot make it during any of the listed times, .
The end of the semester is drawing
near! Click on 'Final exam' to see our final exam schedule.

Exam
3 didn't turn out all that great, so we are adding 5 points to the total
score. Grade computer has been updated to reflect exam 3. We
won't have any more quizzes, so only the final grade is left to be incorporated
in your score.
New homework is posted.
Exam
3 is has been moved to Friday, 11/22. We are still covering the same material.
Exam
3 is scheduled for Thursday, 11/21. It willl cover chapter 4 except
for sections we skipped, as seen from the homework assignment. All

we are covering next week. To help you review for the exam, a selection
of problems from the 'Review' collection in the back of the chapter 4 is

Homework is posted. We will go over sections 3.6-3.8 on Thursday.
Our second exam is in about two weeks time, 10/29 or 10/30.
The
quiz did not turn out well, especially considering the problems are basic
(see scoreboard). The differentiation rules are important and have
to be mastered in this course. Please review the solutions and make
sure you can do the problems.
Next week, no quiz (yippee!). New homework is posted. Let's start
thinking about exam 2, to happen about two weeks from now.
We
are having a quiz on Thursday. It will cover sections 3.3-3.5. Calculators
are not allowed. (Sorry for the lateness in updating this page.)
Homework is posted up to 3.6. We will look at some of those problems next week.
The grade computer is now operational. Try it!
We are having a quiz on Thursday over 3.1 and 3.2. No calculators.
Homework in up to 3.4 is posted, but we have yet to cover those sections.
Exam 1 did not
go very well (see 'Scoreboard'). What's up, guys? I didn't think
the exam was that hard, plus there were many problems people have seen before.
I did see that people were studying, however, but apparently not enough.
I decided to add 5 points to the scores on account of there being 5
points worth of 'unexpected' problems on the test and also to stimulate further
studying.
Homework in 3.1 and 3.2 is posted, we will look at these problems on Tuesday.
Exam 1 solutions are posted as well. Old homework can be found
under 'Old homework'.
Quiz #3 turned
out rather poorly (see 'Scoreboard'). We'll discuss some of it next
week. Take a look at the solutions this weekend (see 'Solution stash')..
Homework up to 2.9 (what the exam is going to cover) is posted. Look
at sections 2.6-2.9 so we can look at some of those problems next week.
Exam 1, over Chapter 2, is set for Wednesday, 9/25.
We are having a quiz over sections 2.4 and 2.5 on Thursday. Bring a calculator.

Homework is posted up to 2.6.
We'll look
over homework in 2.4 and 2.5 on Monday, so make sure you have read those
sections and attempted the homework problems.
We should start thinking about our first exam. Let's aim for week after next, one of the days Tue-Thu.
Solutions to quizzes 1 and 2 have been posted. Check "Solution Stash" at left.
We'll have a quiz on Thursday over section 2.3. No calculators.

Class and office hours are
canceled on Wednesday (8/28), as I have to be out of town. Use the
time to look over the review assignment (Chapter 1) and the assignment from
2.1.
I expect to post to the website
on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Thus, check for new assignments
Tuesdays and Fridays later in the afternoon. You should start working
on an assignment once we've finished the section in class.
Office hours have been posted.

They are effective immediately.
Our first quiz is next week,
most likely on Thursday.
