On Monday, we will finish section 7.5 and immediately start discussion of its homework. Its MyLab is due on Thursday.

Exam 2 is coming during the week after next. We'll have an in-class joysheet and a take-home one before it, and will allow some time to return it to you before the exam.

The antidepressant joysheet 4 was distributed in class last week, due on Wednesday. If you would like yours before Monday, you know where to find it.

On Monday, we will continue lectures over section 7.4. If we finish, we will start working on the homework for this section, which has already been assigned on MyLab.

Exam 2 is approaching - we will have it once we finish with sections 7.4 and 7.5 and discussion of their homework.

On Monday, we will continue - and hopefully complete - homework discussion of section 7.2. Its MyLabs are due on Tuesday.

If you haven't already, have a watch of the video lecture on section 7.3, found in Canvas/files/recordings. (This is a make-up of our missed Wednesday class.) It will introduce you to homework in section 7.3, which we may get to discuss on Monday.

MyLabs for section 7.1 are due tonight. On Monday, we will cover section 7.2.

Have a wonderful fall break!

Home, 10/4

Exam 1 turned out somewhat poorly. The bad news is that the average was low, but the good news is that only a few people did really poorly. I saw a lot of confusion with really basic stuff, things you should have been able to do. On the two problems where the exam was different from the sample, problems were like problems on a joysheet where people scored well, so what happened on the exam (or what is happening on homework)? It appears many people relied only on the sample exam to prepare, which is not enough. Everyone will have to prepare better on the next exam, which the students usually find harder.

On Monday we will work on homework from section 7.1, due on Tuesday on MyLab.

Exam 1, covering sections 6.1-6.6 is scheduled for Wednesday. It will consist of problems like we did in class and on homework and joysheets. Check out sample exam 1 on the "scores and docs" page to get an idea of what it may look like. We will review for the exam on Monday.

Joysheet 3 was due today, but if you haven't gotten it to me, you can bring it to me on Monday.

On Monday, we will discuss homework from section 6.5, after which we will cover section 6.6. MyLabs for 6.5 are due on Tuesday, as it is a simple section.

Exam 1 is coming on Wednesday during the week after next. Before that we will have some time to cover a section in chapter 7, but this will not be on the exam.

Home, 9/12

Homework discussion for section 6.4 was completed today - its MyLabs are due on Tuesday.

On Monday we'll do an in-class joysheet over sections 6.3 and 6.4 and distribute one to take home. Once we finish chapter 6, we'll have exam 1, no earlier than during the week after next. If anyone would like to get a head start on this, look at sample exam 1 on the "scores and docs" page.

Home, 9/5

Homework discussion for section 6.3 was completed today - its MyLabs are due on Tuesday. Joysheet 1 was distributed this week, and was due today. If you did not turn it in, bring it on Monday, and if you did not receive it, find it at the link above.

On Monday we continue with new section 6.4.

Home, 8/29

Homework discussion for section 6.2 is nearly finished: we'll do one more problem on Wednesday and then continue with new material. MyLab for section 6.2 is due on Thursday.

Remember that you can always find lecture notes and board images from homework discussion in Canvas/Files. Also, free tutoring information has been updated for the fall semester, check it out!

Have a nice long weekend!

And that's it for our first week! We wrapped up section 6.1 and will discuss homework from it on Monday. MyLab for this section is due on Wednesday.

If you haven't signed up for MyLab, make it a priority this weekend. (Ten of you haven't signed up yet, see me if you are having trouble connecting.) In Canvas, click on "Course Materials" and follow instructions from there.

Home, 8/18

Welcome to the course! Look around to familiarize yourself with the layout of these webpages. To get to other pages, click on the links in the menu (or drop-down, if viewing on a smartphone). The most often used pages are in the first line of the menu (or the first several choices of the drop-down). "Scores and docs," for example, has all the documents for the course.

Your first exercise is to find the syllabus on these pages and read it. The items there that are typically of greatest interest to students are from "Homework" to "Make-ups."

These pages will get more content as information becomes available. Check back often: useful information is provided in the "home" section (which you are reading), typically updated weekly. For now, here is some information on the textbook, online homework and Canvas.

Textbook and online homework: In this course, you have signed up for "Inclusive Access," which automatically bills you for access to the online homework system and includes the e-book. You can access these materials by clicking on Canvas/Course Materials. If you do not already have a Pearson account, you will need to create it and then link it to your Canvas account.

Canvas: Canvas will only be the repository of class notes and your grades. Information about the course and weekly messages will be posted to this website (also accessible from Canvas). (Why bother with the website outside of Canvas? Two reasons: it's easier to make updates to it, and it stays public. I value this, and you may grow to as well, as a service to future students of this same course.)

Lecture notes: I will distribute the printed notes in class. For future classes, have these with you so that you can follow the lectures in class without having to copy a lot. The filled-in notes written in class are posted on Canvas.
