The course is over and the final grades are in! You can view the overall class statistics, as well as all exams and their solutions on the "scores and docs" page.

Exam 4 scores dipped somewhat, probably the product of the end of the semester and the difficulty of the material (logarithms are always tricky). Final exam statistics always take a beating because the best students don't take it.

I greatly enjoyed teaching this course, and you were my best College Algebra class in recent memory! Special thanks go to everyone who was active in class - and there were quite a few of you - your participation made it more productive and fun!

Have a restful break!

The final exam is scheduled for Monday at 1:30 in our usual classroom. Recall that the final exam is optional, and serves as an opportunity to improve your grade, should you decide to do so.

The final exam, which is comprehensive, will have 6 pages (as opposed to our usual 4 pages) and will consist of problems quite like the ones we have had on the previous exams. Thus, the best way to study for the final exam is to make sure you can do all the problems we had on the past four exams. For further practice, work on the sample final or rework the joysheets. Solutions to all of our exams and joysheets are in the "scores and docs" section.

I will send your grade by email by Saturday noon. If you need to see me during finals week, my office hours are Monday: 9:00-1:30, Tuesday: 9:00-10:30. Let me know if you cannot make these times.

Good luck on finals!

Exam 4, covering sections 5.1-5.6 is scheduled for Friday (12/1) of next week. Check out sample exam 4.

After exam 4, you will receive your grade by email by Saturday noon, so you can decide whether to take the final exam (scheduled for Monday, 12/4 at 1:30).

On Monday after Thanksgiving we will discuss homework from sections 5.3 and 5.4 (MyMathLabs are due on the Tuesday after). We will also cover some new material. Joysheet 8 is due on that Monday as well.

Have a good Thanksgiving break, but don't forget college algebra - you will need it the following week!

Exam 3 turned out so-so. See the statistics and solutions on the "scores and docs" page.

MyMathLabs for 5.1 and 5.2 are due on Saturday. On Monday, we move ahead with sections 5.3 and 5.4.

Joysheet 8 was distributed in class today and is due on the Monday after Thanksgiving. If you want yours before Monday, get it under "joysheets."

Joysheet 6 was due today, but you can bring it in on Monday if your is not ready yet. Also today, I handed out joysheet 7, which is due on Wednesday.

Exam 2 turned out quite well - check the stats on the "scores and docs" page.

On Monday, we will go over some 3.3 homework. MyMathLab for this section is due on Tuesday.

The grade computer has been updated to reflect the structure of the grade in this course. Check it out!

Exam 2 is scheduled for Friday. It will cover sections 2.1-2.5. Check out sample exam 2, with the exception of problem 7, which is from JIT 23, so will be replaced by something from sections 2.1-2.5.

As before, problems on the exam will be like problems on homework and joysheets. Try the practice exam, and time yourself.

Joysheet 5 is due on Monday. If you did not get yours last week you can get it here.

Home, 10/4

Joysheet 4 is due on Monday. If you did not get yours, choose "joysheets."

On Monday, we will discuss homework in sections 2.4 and its MyMathLab is due on Tuesday.

Have a good fall break!

Exam 1 turned out well overall - good job, class! If you have not done as well as you hoped, it's time to reconsider the effort that you are putting in the course. Stop by office hours if you need help, or avail yourself to the free tutoring sessions (see "free tutoring").

On Monday, we will discuss homework in sections 2.2 and 2.3 and have an in-class joysheet over sections 2.1-2.3. Because we did not get to discuss any of section 2.2 today, I postponed its deadline on MyMathLab for Monday.

After exam 1, you may relax a little. We start chapter 2 on Monday.

Exam 1, covering sections 1.1-1.6 is scheduled for Friday. As you prepare for the exam, it is useful to look at and practice on old exams I have given - there are sample exams on the "scores and docs" page. Check out sample exam 1.

A good test of preparation is to try to do a full sample exam in 50 minutes, which is our allotted time.

On Monday we will discuss homework from sections JIT 13, 15 and 21. On Wednesday, we will discuss homework from sections JIT 22 and 23 (none of those will be on the exam). MyMathLabs are due on the respective days.

Joysheet 3 is due on Monday. If you somehow did not get it in class, you can always get it from the link in the menu.

Joysheet 2 was handed out today - it is due on Wednesday. If you would like yours before Monday, find it on these pages.

Solutions to Joysheet 1 and class statistics are on the "scores and docs" page. In-class joysheet solutions are on the web after we have worked on them in class.

Exam 1 is coming week after next.

Free tutoring information has been updated with this semester's schedules.

Have a nice Labor Day break (no school on on Monday)!

Section 1.2 has been assigned for homework discussion on Monday. Its MyMathLab is due on Tuesday.

On Monday we may have an in-class worksheet over sections 1.1 and 1.2 (if not Monday, then Wednesday).

Due to the eclipse we will not have class on Monday. Take care when watching the sun - you still want to be able to work on homework after the event - and enjoy!

Sections JIT.17, JIT.6, JIT.7, JIT.14 and 1.1 have been assigned for homework. We will discuss them on Wednesday. Recall that the list of problems assigned can be found under "homework" - it is not necessary to do all the problems in a section.

If you are in the half the class that has not done so already, sign up for MyMathLab. The first assignments are due on Friday, and you should not wait until the last moment to work on them.

Welcome to the course! Look around to familiarize yourself with the layout of these webpages. To get to other pages, click on "choose..." and select the page: the most often-used pages are near the top of the menu. All documents (homework assignment, solutions to exams, etc.) can be found at the "scores and docs" page. Links to often-used documents (homework, joysheets) are at the bottom of the list.

Since you are already here, now may be a good moment to sign up for MyMathLab. See the instructions on the "mymathlab" page.

These pages will get more content as information becomes available (homework and joysheets have not yet been posted, for example).  Check back often: useful information is provided in the "home" section (which you are reading), typically updated weekly.
