Home, 1/11 (last update, belated)

The course is over, the final grades are in! You may view all the course statistics, including final grades, on the "scores and docs" page. All the exams and their solutions are available there as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed teaching this course, and I hope most of you did, too. Special thanks go to students who were active in class - your participation keeps the class lively and makes my work easier!

Hope your break was good and that you have a good spring semester!

Home, 12/4

The final exam is scheduled for Wednesday, 12/8, at 8:00. If only a few people are taking it, we may change this time. The final exam will be comprehensive, will have 6 pages (so, 50% longer than regular exams), and will have problems similar to the three exams we had so far. The best way to start studying for the final is to make sure you can do all the problems on our three exams, especially the ones you did not do so well on. All the solutions are posted (exam 3 will be posted on Monday).

Office hours for next week are:

Monday: 1:00-4:00
Tuesday: 2:00-4:00
Wednesday: 11:00-4:00
Thursday: 10:00-1:30
Friday: 10:00-2:30

Good luck on final exams!

Home, 11/24

Exam 3, covering sections 5.1-5.3 and 6.1-6.3 is scheduled for Thursday, 12/3. Check out the following problems on sample exams 2 and 3:

Exam 2: 1-3, 5
Exam 3: 1, 2, 5, 6

Homework for the remaining sections has been posted. We will discuss sections 6.1 and 6.2 on Tuesday, and cover what we can of 6.3, from which there will be an easier question on exam 3, since we did not have that much time to cover it. Homework from sections 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 will be due by the final exam.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Home, 11/20

Our plan is to cover sections 6.2 and 6.3 on Tuesday and then discuss homework over sections 6.1-6.3 during the final week of classes, with exam 3 scheduled for the Thursday.

Home, 11/13

Homework in sections 5.1 and 5.2 is due on Tuesday.

Home, 11/6

After our exam, you may relax, but don't forget that homework for sections 4.1 and 4.2 are due on Tuesday.

Home, 10/30

We will discuss homework from 4.1 and 4.2 on Tuesday.

Exam 2, covering sections 3.1-3.5, 4.1 and 4.2 is scheduled for Thursday. Check out the following problems on sample exams (correspondence of material to old exams is not neat, because it was ordered differently in the previous version of the book).

Exam 2: 4, 6, 7
Exam 3: 3, 7

Home, 10/23

We will continue covering 3.5 on Tuesday, and will discuss homework over it on Thursday.

Exam 2 is anticipated the week after next, on Thursday.

Home, 10/16

We will discuss homework in section 3.3 on Tuesday, and it will be due on Thursday.

Home, 10/9

We will discuss homework in section 3.2 on Tuesday, and it will be due on Thursday.

Home, 10/2

Relaxing is done! Homework for chapters 3 and 4 has been posted. We will discuss homework in section 3.1 on Tuesday.

Exam 1 turned out pretty well. You can see the scores on the "scores and docs" page, and may find solutions to our exam there. Since it's mid-term grade time, you can calculate your overall score using the grade computer. You will need the sum of your homework scores (numerators and denominators) and the exam score.

Home, 9/25

After the exam, you may relax for a little bit...

Home, 9/18

Exam 1, covering sections 1.1, 1.2 and 2.1-2.4, has been scheduled for Thursday. Problems on the exam will be very much like homework problems and problems we discussed in class. Check out the sample exam 1 on the "scores and docs" page to get an idea what my exams look like.

On Tuesday, we'll start some new material (not on the exam) and take any questions about the exam you may have.

Home, 9/11

We will discuss homework from 2.3 on Tuesday.

Home, 9/4

Homework from 2.1 is due on Tuesday. We will continue discussing homework from 2.2 then, as well.

For those who wish to look ahead to our first exam, check out the sample exams from when I last taught the class on the "scores and docs" page.

Have a good Labor Day long weekend!

Welcome to the course! Look around to familiarize yourself with the layout of these webpages. Note that the most important links at right are highlighted. All documents (homework assignment, solutions to exams, etc.) can be found at the "scores and documents" page. Links to often-used documents also appear in the menu bar at right.

These pages will get more content as information becomes available. Check back often: useful information is provided in the "home" section (which you are reading), typically updated weekly.
