12/15 (last message)
The course is over and the grades are in! You can view the statistics on all the exams and the final grades on the usual page. Keep in mind that final exam statistics usually exhibit significantly lower scores, because the students who have an A based on performance during the semester are not taking it.
It was a pleasure teaching this course: you were a good group of students of whom many were engaged every time. Thanks to everyone who participated in class discussion - you make my job a more fun and a easier!
Have a wonderful winter break!
You can get your final grade, as well as exam 4 and joysheet 10 grades on Friday (tomorrow) at 2:30PM in room 303 of Faculty Hall (it is in the corner diametrically opposed to the corner where our classroom was. If you cannot make this time send me an email from your murraystate account (so I know it's you), or check out office hours for finals week below.
The final exam is on Monday at 10:30AM in our usual classroom. It will cover all the semester's material (6 pages, about 1.5 regular exams). The best way to prepare for the final exam is to make sure you can do all the problems on the regular exams. (Solutions to those will be posted soon, and you can practice on the blank exams provided).
Office hours for finals week (starting tomorrow):
Monday, 9:30-10:30 & 12:45-1:30 & 3:45-4:30
Good luck on finals!
Exam 4 over 14.1, 15.1-15.3 is scheduled for Thursday. Check out sample exam 4 for some representative problems.
I will have your course grades on Friday, and we will set a time to meet in order to distribute the final grades and return your exams. Then you can decide whether to take the final exam. If you cannot make it at that time, see me at my office on Friday until about 4PM, or send me an email from your murraystate account (so I know it's you) to find out your grade.

Exam 3 turned out quite well: good job, class! See scores and solutions in the usual place.
After the exam, you may relax a little, but keep in mind exam 4 is just around the corner, during the last week of class.
We just started 14.1 and will have a joysheet over it given on Tuesday, to be turned in on Thursday.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Exam 2 turned out reasonably well. You may look at the statistics and solutions in the usual place. If you haven't done as well as you hoped, we have two more exams and a final that can help you improve your grade.
Joysheet 8 was distributed on Thursday. It is due on Thursday of next week. If you haven't seen my email about it, in problem 2, change the data item 13 to a 21 so that the instructions for the problem correspond to the data set. You can find the updated joysheet (with that one change) among the "complete joysheets".
Band people, who will not be in class on Thursday: please turn in Joysheet 8 ahead of time in order to avoid getting points taken off for lateness.
Recall that we will not meet on Tuesday due to Election Day.
After exam 2 you may relax. We start a new chapter on Tuesday.
Exam 2, covering sections 11.1, 11.4, 11.6-11.8 is scheduled for Thursday. Check out sample exam 2 for some representative problems.

The first exam turned out pretty well, with many people getting A's. You can see the statistics for the class on the "scores and docs" page, as well as get the solutions to the exam.
If you haven't done as well as you had hoped, there are still three more exams whose content students generally regard as easier.
Have a nice fall break!
After the first exam, no homework is due, so every can take a break. On Tuesday, we continue with chapter 11.
Our first exam is scheduled for Thursday. It will cover chapter 8. Problems on it will be much like what we had for homework and what is on joysheets 2-4. Check out sample exam 1 - the problems there are representative of what may come on our exam.
On Tuesday, we will spend the first half-hour with a new chapter (which will not be on the exam). Then you will have an opportunity to ask any questions about exam material you may have. So come prepared to ask questions!
Joysheet 4 was given out on Tuesday and it is due on Tuesday. You can find it on the "scores and solutions page" if you did not yet receive it. There will not be an opportunity for you to retrieve Joysheet 4 in class before the exam, but you may come to my office on Wednesday to pick it up.
Next week we will finish section 8.5 and start with chapter 11. I will give out one more joysheet from chapter 8.
Exam is scheduled for Thursday, 9/27 (week after next), covering chapter 8. Check out sample exam 1 (on the "scores and docs" page).
Homework in 8.3 and 8.4 has been assigned. Don't forget to also do the problems on the additional sheet, handed out in class. You can also find this sheet as page 2 in the homework file.
Joysheets 2 and 3 were distributed in class, due on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. If you did not receive yours and would like to have it before Tuesday, you can download it from the section "scores and docs".
I anticipate exam 1, covering chapter 8, to come week after next. Sample exams have now been posted on the "scores and docs" page.
Joysheet 1's due date was changed from today to Tuesday of next week. Make sure you know how to use your calculator for more complex calculations.
Have a good Labor Day weekend!
Sections 8.1 and 8.2 have been assigned for homework. Work the problems in those sections in order to be prepared for Tuesday, when we will work on some of them.
Also, Joysheet 1 was handed out, due on Thursday. If you did not get one and want it ahead of Tuesday's class, you can find it in the "scores and docs" section, "Complete joysheets" link at the bottom of the page.
Information on free tutoring was updated to show this semester's schedule. Note that free tutoring at the Lowry center offers tutoring for MAT 117 only one day a week.
Welcome to the course! Look around to familiarize yourself with the layout of these webpages. Note that the most important links at right are highlighted. All documents (homework assignment, solutions to exams, etc.) can be found at the "scores and documents" page.
These pages will get more content as information becomes available. Check back often: useful information is provided in the "home" section (which you are reading), typically updated weekly. Homework assignments will be updated when we start a new chapter.
