A Typical Day in the Life of the Terrific Termite Team

6:45 – Shamble towards breakfast (we were pretty zombified).

7:00 -  Eat breakfast (de-zombie).

7:30 – Two or more volunteers do the dishes.

8:30 – Leave for our designated termiting* site of the day.

12 ish – Eat the lunches that we’ve packed at some beautiful place.

1:304:00– Continue termiting!!

4:35 – 5:35 – Go to the beach and swim, snorkel, or tan out on the beach.

5:35– 6:00 – Shower before dinner – only three minutes of water!

6:00   Eat dinner and clean up.

6:30 – 8:00 – Sort the termites according to nest

8- bedtime – Free time to read, call home, or just chat.

Of course, our schedule wasn’t really as strict as this may seem. Some days we got more free time than others, but the work was fair. We would visit as many nests as we could without totally exhausting ourselves – if it got just too hot or if we got too tired, Claire and Marielle probably were too, and so they would let us crash at the beach or here at VIERS.

*Termiting (tur-my-ting) v.- the act, or process of collecting, studying, and analyzing various aspects of a certain nest and its surrounding environment.
