Writing Assignment 5

New Reality Television Series

The Fox Network, originator of many reality TV series like America's Most Wanted, When Animals Attack and World's Scariest Police Chases that push the envelope of the genre, has lately been feeling the heat of competition from CBS and NBC for the reality TV audience.  Now a producer has approached the network with a concept that may put it back on top.  Fox has ordered a one hour pilot for the February sweeps.

The program has the tentative title News of the Weird, based on the syndicated newspaper column by Chuck Shepherd. Staged as a TV newsmagazine, the pilot may include categories like "People Different From Us," "Least Competent Criminals," "Science on the Edge," "More Things to Worry About," and others from the regular features in the column.  You may use actors or get the actual people to reenact real life situations.           Your assignment is to write a 500 word treatment that organizes the show into five segments and explains how to dramatize each of the vignettes for a prime time television audience, target Persons 18-34.
