JMC 336 Scriptwriting

Writing Assignment 4 – Instructional Video Script

Please use the TWO COLUMN SCRIPT FORMAT (see pp. 35-36 and 221 in the text or the examples on the CD ROM) for this assignment and SEND IT OUT FOR REVISIONS.

Subject: How to send E Mail with an attached document
Length: 3 minutes or less
Target Audience: College students like you

You may assume that you can capture anything that appears on the computer screen on video and zoom into portions of the screens, like menus, to make them more visible and prominent. The instructions will differ with E Mail software, so make sure that you identify which program you are using.

Here's a tip to make aligning the two-column script easy.  DO NOT use a two-column page setup.  This creates one document that flows from the left column to the right.  Whenever you add something on the left, the alignment also changes on the right, and you can no longer read across the page from Video to the corresponding Audio. It's cumbersome.

Instead, type in a header with the script title, any additional information, and the column titles.  Then INSERT A 1X2 (ONE ROW, TWO COLUMNS) TABLE beneath the header.  If you write news scripts often, you may want to save this as a document template.  Now type the text in the two cells of the table.  They function as two independent documents, so the spacing on the left has no effect on the text alignment on the right.  You do, however, have to move the cursor from column to column to start typing there.
