HOW TO COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS

COMPOSITION

You may use whatever word processing software with which you are most familiar. Do not try to write the script in the E mail window itself. Most E mail programs do not have spell checkers, grammar correction, a dictionary, a thesaurus, and other very useful tools which I expect you to use so that your work looks and reads professional.

Unless I tell you otherwise, use the master scene script format in Friedmann, Chapters 1 and 2. Once you have finished the assignment, save it both on your hard drive and on a separate diskette.

TRANSMISSION

There are two acceptable formats to transmit your document by E-Mail. You may attach an MSWord document (.doc) or a Rich Text Format (.rtf) documentDo not send me any files in other formats because I shall not be able to open them.  As an emergency measure only, you may copy your text and paste it into the E-Mail window to assure that an assignment arrives on time.  If you do this, however, I expect you to submit the same script in correct format within 24 hours.  Otherwise, I cannot grade the assignment.  For other contingencies, look below.

Some tips on writing better

COMMUNICATION

There is a deadline for each assignment. By that date and time, you must E mail your finished script, treatment, etc. to me and, when called for, to each student in your Revision Group. Go ahead and make yourself an E mail list for this purpose.

EXPECTATIONS

I expect you to finish your work by the deadline for each assignment, and to submit text that is relatively free of grammar, spelling, and syntax errors. I expect for most of you initially to have some problems conforming to the formats, using the proper terminology, and putting your visual concepts into words, but I also expect for you to learn these techniques as we go along. After all, if you knew how to do this, you wouldn't need to take this class. Finally, I expect for you to produce marketable script material by the end of this class.

You should expect me to send an immediate reply to you, acknowledging receipt of your work, and to give you prompt feedback and evaluations, usually within 48 hours. Because this type of class is relatively new to all of us, you should expect me to evaluate the conduct of the class itself continually and to change things as we go along to improve your learning experience. In order to do that part of my job, I need to hear from you. Send me E mail aside from the assigned work to tell me what works and what needs to be changed.
