Each of you has chosen a new media technology. Find out how that particular technology has developed to date. Has it diffused successfully? Does it still appear to be useful or promising? Why or why not? Who are the major innovators and inventors? What role is the government playing in this process? Are there any social concerns that are important? Then find out what experts are predicting for the future of this technology.
From your research, put together a 15 to 20 minute Power Point presentation for the class, with a 1-2 page handout which includes the definition of your topic, a brief chronology of its history, and a summary of the future prospects. Then be prepared to answer questions about the topic. A suggested outline for presentations is below, and the schedule is attached.
1. Definition of the Topic - what the technology is, what it does, what its presumed and intended uses are
2. History of Development - how this innovation came to be
3. Present State of Development - what is available now, at what cost, who the current users are, what potential barriers to diffusion are
4. Future Development - what experts predict, what consequences to expect,
what your assessment is
