1. The research requirement maybe fulfilled by a formal academic paper or another form of written presentation that would be appropriate for a government, business, or historical agency. Any method of presentation other than a formal paper should be approved before the project is initiated. Approval will be required by the course instructor and department chair.
2. The normal length of the paper should be 10 to 15 pages.
3. The writing style for papers, including footnote style and bibliography, should follow the latest edition of Kate L. Turabian, A Manual for Writers.
4. Primary sources will be used if at all possible.
5. A rough draft will be subjected to critique and revised to the satisfaction of the instructor.
6. The final presentation will be graded, reviewed with the student, and then placed in the student's permanent file.
7. The student will normally be expected to present an oral report on the project to the class in which the project is undertaken or to another audience.
8. The student should obtain a cover sheet from the department secretary and submit 2 copies of the cover sheet and 1 copy of the paper for permanent retention.
