eCommerce Site Design Team Assignment
(100 points)

In this assignment, your team will develop a comprehensive, business-to-consumer eCommerce site, including a range of informational and communication pages, an electronic catalog of products and a payment and order system for purchasers.

Site Design (80 points)

Before designing your site, you should complete the planning process for your eBusiness operations.  Then, using the Web authoring tools available to you (including plug-ins and supplements available for Front Page), your team will construct an Ecommerce site with extensive customer interactivity, an electronic catalog and order fulfillment system. The home page of the site should be linked from the personal pages of all team members, though a return link is not necessary.  The site should be consistent with course stylistic standards and include several components which;

  • incorporate a consistent stylistic identity, including a logo with the name of your organization, into the site design format,
  • provide a comprehensive navigational system within a set of shared borders or frames,
  • provide background information about the organization in a clear, organized manner,
  • provide users the opportunity to subscribe to an electronic newsletter, with subscriber information captured in an Access database table,
  • provide Email communication with key people in the organization at relevant places throughout the site,
  • provide a links page with an explanatory introduction and at least ten annotated links to related sites that might be of interest to users,
  • provide links to any eBay auctions your team is offering, each auction should also be linked to the home page of this site,
  • provide an electronic catalog of at least 12 products in at least three categories, with pricing, feature information as well as product pictures, descriptions and a one-button purchase function which allows users to pay for the product through the Club's PayPal account,
  • provide a threaded discussion list which allows users to discuss product/company related topics, and
  • provide a survey form page, formatted for efficient use of space,  for collecting information on customers' preferences for your type of product, responses to be stored in an Access database table..

Explanation of Site Design (20 points)

Review the lists of resources for evaluating and promoting Web sites.  Use these resources to identify ways of improving your site. Publish your site and send me the URL as an Email message which also explains;

  • the objective of your site,
  • the target audience for your site,
  • a brief description of your marketing strategy (4 P's) for the site,
  • the design characteristics of the site which make it effective and appropriate,
  • your plans for evaluating the site's technical and marketing effectiveness, and
  • your plans for conventional and electronic promotion of the site.
