COUNTRY MARKET ASSESSMENT TEAM PROJECT

Purpose

This assignment is designed to increase students' skills in using diverse information technologies, analyzing data in the evaluation of foreign markets as export opportunities for consumer products and communicating effectively with colleagues.  It takes the form of a market assessment project with a focus on the brewing industry.

Team Formation

As soon as possible, you should form a team of four members and select a country for your research.  Each team will select the country upon which it will focus, assign specific individual topics to team members, and begin the research process.  The countries from which you must choose are listed on the Countries and Research Tools page, which also contains datafiles related to each countries and links to WWW resources where you should begin your research.  Use the Team Formation and Country Selection Form to report your teams, report assignments and country selection to me.  A country will be assigned to the first team who requests it, as determined by the date and time of the request form submission.  We will discuss your progress and address any problems during one of the initial class sessions.

The Assignment

This assignment consists of a team project in four parts which are described in the attached Report Format Document.  Each part is an  individual research project worth 100 points. Each member of the team will select and prepare one part. The written reports for parts 1-3 will be answers to the questions posed rather than a reporting of the data consulted.  The fourth report will follow the outline described in the format instructions for that section.  It consists of individual research on the beer market in the selected country as well as reporting of the TEAM'S conclusions as to the best marketing strategy for that country.  For each report, be sure to observe the length guideline of 9-12 pages.

In addition to written report, each team will make an oral presentation of its project.  This presentation will consist of four individual reports covering each of the parts of the project.  Each team member will report on his/her assigned part of the project. Each individual report will;

  • be approximately 7 minutes in length,

  • structured around a PowerPoint slide presentation, and

  •  follow the guidelines of the Presentation Basics handout.

Footnotes in the report take the form (4,123-30).  The first number is the number of the source in the Bibliography.  The second numbers are the pages which contain the information you are using.  Do not copy large blocks of material from the sources.  Summarize the relevant information in your own words.  Whatever direct quotations you do use must be in quotation marks.  Improper documentation will result in a substantially reduced grade.  Failure to document sources will result in a grade of "0" with no recourse.
