About AIMS
AIMS
is an Upward Bound Math and Science Program that is part of the TRIO programs,
federally funded by the United States Department of Education. Our host
institution is Murray State University, and we are located within the Division
of Student Affairs. Our primary goal is to recruit 50 high school students
to participate in
Summer
component and
Academic year component.
Each
Summer 50 students recruited from out of Western Kentucky, Southern Illinois,
Northwestern Tennessee or Eastern Missouri participate in a 6 week residential
program on the campus of Murray State University, at no cost to the participant,
other than transportation to the campus. Students will be divided into
research teams led by a professor and /or graduate student. Students are
enrolled in classes during the day and will participate in nightly activities.
Parents and guest are invited to an end of the summer banquet/math and
science symposium.
Participants
who have successfully completed the summer program will be contacted
periodically by phone calls, visits, e-mails, and monthly newsletters to monitor
their progress in school. They will also be invited to participate in
Financial Aid, ACT, College Admissions, Scholarships and Math/Science
research competitions on the campus of Murray State University.
The
Bridge
component
is for participants who have successfully completed at least one summer program
prior to entering the 12th grade. During the summer
program
bridge students enroll in six hours of college level courses at Murray State
University. Fees are covered by AIMS. At the end of the summer the
top two students may be awarded a $500 scholarship to attend Murray State University.
